Residence Bucharest Mansardare

The building, built in a Pauper Art Deco style, reflects the specific characteristics of domestic architecture. Although it has been subsequently clad with 10 cm thick expanded polystyrene, which to some extent affects the original appearance, it retains some of the original defining features, such as the characteristic vertical registers and the mast. Over time, however, certain subsequent interventions have altered the aesthetics of the façade: the removal of the vertical predominance, the closing of the first floor balcony and modifications to the roof, including additional eaves to protect the façade.

The project realized by the ARCHOS 2002 team aims at eliminating these vernacular additions that have distorted the appearance of the building, returning to a coherent architectural language that revalorizes the facades, through a project of mansarding, local consolidations and interior design of the house. The reconfiguration of the aesthetic will focus on emphasizing the verticality of the staircase - an essential element of the Art Deco style - and the use of elegant facade moldings. The project also foresees the rehabilitation and transformation of the attic into a functional space by modifying the existing roof, respecting the maximum cornice height of 10 meters. The stair tower, as a vertical accent element, will reach a height of 12 meters.
