In November, the Arhipera team received the building structure, the envelope, the staircase and the supanta of the Community Center in Chiojdu. The works progressed throughout the fall at a steady pace, according to the execution schedule. From now on, work will be carried out exclusively inside during the winter.
The beneficiaries of the project, the local community of Chiojdu, are delighted with the construction, especially as tourists visiting the village already make a detour to reach the Community Center, the building attracting their attention in a positive way. The center looks better than in renderings, because no computer-generated image could match the warmth of the genuine material. Any architectural program or software cannot capture (at least for the moment) the actual textures and sensations given by the physical, on-site encounter with the architectural object. However much we may be dominated by digital images, the authenticity of the real material and the building itself continues to generate connections, curiosity and, why not, joy.
With all the enthusiasm and support so far, we hope to inaugurate the Community Center during the Arhipera Summer School, summer 2024 edition!
It is important to note that the foundations were skillfully crafted by Mr. Drăgulin and his team, and the woodwork was accomplished under the careful guidance of Mr. Lukacs and his team. Their essential contribution to this project ensured the solidity and exterior of the building, and in addition, added a touch that honors the local traditions of wood and is reflected in the envelope and construction details, created by the students of the Faculty of Architecture of the UAUIM since the 11th edition of the Arhipera Summer School. With gratitude to all these dedicated collaborators, we optimistically look forward to the next stages of the finalization of the Chiojdu Community Center project.
The Chiojdu Community Center project is implemented by the Arhipera Association of students and professors of the "Ion Mincu" University of Architecture and Urbanism, together with the Chiojdu Local Council, is supported by re:arc institute and realized in partnership with the Romanian Union of Architects.
